The Opportunity:

Rooted School New Orleans launched in 2017 and is the flagship school within the Rooted School Network. Since then, Rooted New Orleans has been recognized twice by the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools for its “Most Innovative” charter school in the state and is recognized as 1 of 232 “Most Innovative” public schools in the U.S. by the Canopy Project stewarded by Transcend Education, Center for Reinventing Public Education. 

Greater New Orleans has continued to emerge and grow in a post-COVID environment and high-wage, high-demand industry sectors are investing in new technologies and are experiencing an evolution that is creating new career pathways for youth. Now, more than ever, we will be aligning our efforts to increase pathways to upward mobility by offering a broad range of Industry Recognized Credentials, robust dual credit opportunities with SUNO, and anchoring our four-year promise. Rooted’s North Star is that, after four years with us, students have a chance to earn a college acceptance in one hand and a job offer in the other (and an Associates Degree). 

Overview of the Role:

In your role, you will be lead support to our Director of School Environment, and you will work directly with our Executive Director, Board, and other members of our statewide and national network to help spearhead Rooted School’s next chapter in New Orleans, Louisiana by Fall 2023.

As our Assistant Director of School Environment, you will play a critical role in ensuring our school culture and behavioral management systems hold high expectations for students, provide supportive structures, and help our Rooted family build secure attachments over time.

Above all, you will help us determine how we will fulfill the Rooted Promise. This will not be easy. Many will say we cannot do it. I hope you’ll join us anyway.

  • Highly organized with the ability to develop organizational systems that promote efficiency and efficacy

Areas of Responsibility Include (but are not limited to):

  • Create, revise, + maintain restorative practices systems, and structures at Rooted School

  • Contribute to rituals, routines, and celebrations to promote a positive and joyful school environment

  • Proactively respond to student behavior by designing innovative solutions to address student needs

  • Develop strong relationships with students, families, community members, and Rooted teammates

  • Meticulously maintain, monitor, and report on student data (discipline, culture, and attendance), and provide student support in response to data

  • Collaborate with the school counselor and Rooted teammates to effectively respond to student needs and implement behavior interventions with targeted students

  • Offer coaching and supports to instructional teammates in effective response to student behavior and the promotion of a positive educational environment

  • Ensure due process and legal compliance with all disciplinary actions, accurately document all school communication and responses to discipline

  • Actively engage in creating a strong school culture. Every team member is responsible for helping establish Rooted's culture among students, partners, and the community-at-large

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds with a commitment to valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • At least three years' experience in upper middle school and/or high school with a high-needs population with a track record of outstanding results

Compensation:

Competitive full-time salary commensurate with experience, as well as a comprehensive benefits package
