Rooted School New Orleans launched in 2017 and is the flagship school within the Rooted School Network. Since then, Rooted New Orleans has been recognized twice by the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools for its “Most Innovative” charter school in the state and is recognized as 1 of 232 “Most Innovative” public schools in the U.S. by the Canopy Project stewarded by Transcend Education, Center for Reinventing Public Education. 

Greater New Orleans has continued to emerge and grow in a post-COVID environment and high-wage, high-demand industry sectors are investing in new technologies and are experiencing an evolution that is creating new career pathways for youth. Now, more than ever, we will be aligning our efforts to increase pathways to upward mobility by offering a broad range of Industry Recognized Credentials, robust dual credit opportunities with SUNO, and anchoring our four-year promise. Rooted’s North Star is that, after four years with us, students have a chance to earn a college acceptance in one hand and a job offer in the other (and an Associates Degree). 

Overview of the Role:

In your role, you will be a lead executor of our History/Social Studies curriculum, and you will work directly with our Executive Director, Board, and other members of our statewide and national network to help spearhead Rooted School’s next chapter in New Orleans, Louisiana by Fall 2023.

As our History/Social Studies Teacher, you will work in step with our instructional team to fulfill our school-wide vision for how we grow our innovative, high school educational experience for incoming 9th-12th grade students (2023-2024) and execute the curriculum to bring that vision to reality.

Above all, you will help us determine how we will fulfill the Rooted Promise. This will not be easy. Many will say we cannot do it. I hope you’ll join us anyway.

Areas of Responsibility Include (but are not limited to):

  • Creating, refining, + maintaining the History/Social Studies curriculum at Rooted School

  • Collaborating with other content area teachers to design cross-curricular projects and emphasize targeted soft skills across the curriculum

  • Meticulously monitor student data, provide frequent feedback, and targeted student support in response to data

  • Consistently implement and execute student interventions with flexible grouping

  • Execute Rooted’s hybrid academic model with fidelity and consistency

  • Actively establishing Rooted's culture among students, partners, and the community-at-large

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds with a commitment to valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • A completed post-baccalaureate secondary teacher certification and/or a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Government, Public Policy, or other relevant programs

  • Valid Louisiana State Teaching Certificate, or can obtain a Louisiana State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement

  • Knowledge of academic coursework to be taught and teaching methods for the 21st century classroom

  • Experience in developmentally appropriate practices, curriculum adaptation, the use of higher level thinking skills, knowledge of different learning styles and alternative assessment techniques

  • Experience with and analyses of state, local, and teacher-developed assessments

  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish)

Compensation:

Competitive full-time salary commensurate with experience, as well as a comprehensive benefits package
